A cockerel is a young rooster. It hasnt gone through puberty as i like to say XD idk at what point tho that you start calling a cockerel a rooster

Haha aww what was it like? Ive never really heard a rooster crow and i cant wait till mine does ^~^

From what I've read here, they're called cockerels under 1yr old & then roosters from then on - kinda like the females are pullets until they turn a year then they're considered hens. My cockerel started trying to crow around a 2-3 months old & it sounded like he was an extra for Jurassic Park. He didn't really figure it out until maybe around 5 months old or so & now his crow sounds exactly like his father's only in a different tone (a little deeper).

Generally when they first start it sounds weak,or odd,but since he is a late bloomer,he sounded tough.
