rooster collars??

My rooster died. Im not sure if it was from his no crow collar. I had it on him for about three weeks and he seemed to be fine. I hadn't tightened it up either. He was still able to crow and eat and mate and seemed fine. Today when I let everyone out of the coop he didnt come out. I found him dead laying on his back in the nest box he would sleep in. I just don't know what happened.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Thanks I just don't know what could have happened. I never should have put that thing on him. My neighbors never complained about him yet, but I have to listen to there five dogs bark at all hours of the night. I have another rooster who I was going to try the collar on when he starts crowing but now Im scared to do it. Im really not to sure about these collars. It wasnt even tight i could fit my whole index finger under it.

It's been my experience that chickens just drop dead sometimes. Found a hen dead in the pen last week. No injuries and she hadn't been sick. She was only six months old.

If the collar was that loose, it seems unlikely that was the cause. But, I would wait and see how things go with your other rooster before putting it on him and checking with your neighbors first to see if his crows would be a problem for them. I think it's best not to use a collar if you don't need to use one, but if it's the only way to keep an otherwise happy rooster, then I think they're probably fine if they're monitored.
Again, I am so sorry you lost him. I'm sure it was hard to see him like that.

I'm sorry for your loss. That's awful. I wish I had suggestions for you but I just don't know either.

Its a tough call for us all who want to provide a life for a rooster rather than the stew pot but have restrictions for the area we live in or just plain dont want mad neighbors. Know that you were doing what you could to provide a nice life for him. It may or may not have been the collar but without a autopsy you wont know for sure. He may have been sick for awhile as they are very good at hiding when they are lll. It happens, we try our best, but it happens...

HI. our allotment gardens have been told to get rid of all cockerels because of noise issue. I have 4 lovely lads I do not want to kill so would like to try collars. Could you give me address or email for lady who sells no crow collars please and how much were they? Thanks Sharon
