I would go ahead and do it. There is no need to keep him in the house, just turn him back in his pin right after you dub him. Trying to take care of them afterwards seems to make them nervous and makes them bleed worse. I always dub mine and turn them loose asap. I dont do anything else to them, and have never had any problems.

Different breeds will cross. As long as their isnt to much size difference that would make it impossible.

There was a post about it on here awhile back. I think most people decided that if it does make a roo infertile, its only for a short period of time till his comb heals. I dont think it effects his fertility premantly.

Do you only cut the part that is frostbite?

The alcohol is only to clean the scissors too right? Not to pour on an open wound....OUCH...He really won't like her.

I had a hen with a bleeding comb and the blood was everywhere!!!! It was only a tiny spot which was bleeding but the blood was all over her and the coop. I kept her inside just for the night in a dog kennel while it scabbed over.

If The original post cuts it won't the blood be out of control since she will be cutting a large area? Just asking to make sure she will be OK and prepared tomorrow.

You can cut just below the frostbite, but when its that bad I prefer to cut all of it off. As far as bleeding goes he will bleed, and it really looks worse than what it really is. I never keep any of mine seperate after I dub them, I dont do anything else to them except turn them back in their pin where they go and leave them alone. Go back out in 30 minutes and look at them and they will already be scabbed over and pretty much back to normal. Making them nervouse, and tense or scared makes them bleed much worse. The quicker you can get it over with and turn them back loose the easier it is on the chicken.
