Rooster crowing! How do I stop it?

Hi. I have 2 millie fluer roosters and they start crowing at about 6 in the morning. My question is why does he crow all day long? It gets annoying and he never stops.He crows till about 8 at night. Any advice will be gladly appreciated! Thanks

That's what Roosters do! Some Roosters start crowing at 3:00 a.m. and some don't start until later in the morning. Some stop at dusk and some actually crow at night.

You cannot stop him... he's supposed to crow and crow he will.

You may be able to get him to not start crowing until later if you bring him inside at night and put him in a small (he needs to be able to move around a little) completely pitch black dog kennel/crate or something of that nature. There can be no light getting into it. Some people have had success with that method of keeping their roos from crowing so early, some haven't.

If you can't stand his crowing during the day then you need to cull or re-home him.

Out of consideration for our neighbors, every evening after the chickens roost I go into our coop, grab the two roosters by the legs, stick them in a plastic dog kennel, and put it in our dark basement. I let them back out at a reasonable hour the next morning. It's a pain, but better than the ill will dueling foghorns at dawn would generate in our little neighborhood.

I have one observation to add that I'm experiencing. I have a little game bird that crows whenever he sees me or hears me. Even if I'm talking on the phone next to an open window, it's enough to get him started with nonstop crowing. If he's out ranging in the yard, he comes up to the front porch outside the livingroom window and crows until I come out. One time he heard me in the upstairs bathroom and flew up to the garage roof across from the window and started crowing. He'll also follow me around the yard.

None of the other roos do that. It's weird.

I hope if you decide to get rid of your boys that you rehome them. Mille Fleurs are such beautiful birds, much too pretty to eat, IMHO.

Honestly after having chickens for almost 6 years, I get worried when I dont hear crowing in the morning!

I wont eat him but I am trying to rehome him. I always thought they just crowed in the am and stopped a little later. Thanks everyone. Also, when i pet my hens or fill up the food and water, the oldest rooster runs at me and scrapes me. He drew blood on me and my brothers legs and he is getting meaner. I am trying to be nice and humane but it hurts when he bites me. Even when I put a piece of grass through the chain link kennel run, he bites me.
