I bought a rooster to protect my hens which he does well. My only issue is he crows at night. Anyone else have this issue?

Yeah, ppl. think roosters just crow in the morning and that's it...LOL..but they actually crow all day and at night if they can see any kind of light. I have dusk to dawn security light in my back yard and it shines on the hen house so sometimes at 11 o'clock when I'm going to bed I can hear them crowing.

I have five roosters in different jails in the coop. The coop is a work in process and does not have windows yet...so it is dark.
They will all be quiet, but will all start screaming when they hear me coming. Sometimes it isn't until I make noise by starting to move the big cement blocks that are against the double doors. When I open the doors in the morning the little hens all come trotting out to range...but the boys are locked up. They have deep straw bedding and leaving the double doors open all day seems to provide enough ventilation, it does not smell in there. While I'm in there checking for eggs, and making sure everyone has food and water they put up a constant ruckus...but as soon as I am about halfway back to the house...out of sight...they shut up. They are my watchroosters.

Most of the roosters around here start crowing around 3 or 4 AM. They continue to crow throughout the day. I don't even hear it any more. the only time I notice any crowing is when a visitor metions it. You get used to it like people get used to the sound of trains or traffic or whatever.

Had I problem for awhile then I made the coop as dark as I could blocking out the night security light and now he does not crow unless something wakes him up.

Yep! It's like a party in the coop! They crow all the time! You'd think they'd go horse after awhile!

Yes, my roosters crow 24/ 7! They crow ALL NIGHT LONG! And all day! Plus in the morning! I don't have ANY light in there what so ever! Why do you think they do this, do you think?????

I had one that started crowing all night long. I live in a subdivision and already recieved a letter from the HOA about having chickens. So I said goodbye.
