Rooster died

Hello,
To get back on topic for a second....
All I do is put my new Rooster in a look no touch crate out in the yard as my Hens free range around him for a couple of hours and then let him out with the Ladies..I prefer getting a young Cockerel about 6 to 8 months old because he will be a bit unsure of himself...That depends though on breed and temperament of the Cockerel you get...
Best of luck!

I have never had any real problems adding a single rooster. I have always found it one of the easiest of introductions. But I have always added a mature rooster. I just added one this week. I was missing the early morning crow. It is quite a ways from the house. He didn't crow for several days. He is beginning to molt, so maybe a bit touchy. He was wing dancing yesterday. And I heard a crow this morning.

So more chicken drama.....we had 3 buff orpingtons who were never trained to go into the coop at night I mentioned them in another post. Well the other night while roosting on the porch they were spooked by a predator (I knew it would happen sooner or later) and the next day all 3 disappeared and never returned. We now have 2 Austrolops, only one lays. We will be re flocking tomorrow with Reds.

Any thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks
