I have a speckled Sussex about 24-36months old. He is not interested in mating. Hasn’t meen in about 6 months. The hens will back up to him and squat then shake their tail feathers and he is clueless. Like he is no longer interested he is huge and big combed so I wouldn’t have thought it was male hormones. Any thoughts? I have a hen raising what looks to be a rooster. Cuckoo maran. But they are separated in the other side of the yard.

He's aging and spring is still on the far horizon. Give him a little more time to "get into the mood".

Look at his shanks. If you see faint red stripes running up the backs of his legs, it means he still has a decent supply of hormones. As we get nearer to spring, the red stripes should become very visible. If you don't see these red streaks, it may mean he's retired from his career as a stud.

I will double check to make sure he is physically sound as he should be. Check for bumblefoot, soreness, trouble walking, anything like that.

He's getting a little old, and spring has yet to arrive. The hens might be getting older as well, so I would just wait until spring to make more decisions

Wait I’am being corrected by my wife. he is coming on 12-18 months old. Physically he looks good. No bumble foot, he is good at protecting. The last rooster I had was a RIR and he was always mating always crowing always protecting. So this one is new to me and just was getting worried the hens are the same age as he is. Spurs are getting a little long so I will be trimming in a week or two. I’ll check shanks and maybe send a pic.

Here were his legs this morning.

I was gifted an absolutely adorable little bantam roo who never mates my hens. He is a little cutie pie and simply isn’t interested in crowing or mating or all that racket he prefers just to follow us around and help with chores. I think he’s a-sexual 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I love him to bits and pieces!
