My rooster's eye has been injured. We noticed it right away and wiped the blood away with water and a soft cloth. He can not open the eye at all. We think the eye may be lost for good but only time will tell. Is their an antibiotic that I can put into his water or give with a syringe or even a cream for the eye. We don't want the injury to become infected. Thank you for the help!

I had a rooster who got himself pecked in the eye, severing the iris. I didn't put anything on it, just monitored it. I think you can get a broad spectrum antibiotic for chickens from Tractor supply or Agway to put in his water along with some chick vitamin packets. Anything to give his body a boost so he can heal quickly.

Hello and Welcome to BYC! :woot
So sorry to hear about your rooster! I hope that he recovers quickly!
I am defiantly not a veterinarian but I have dealt with unpleasant chicken injuries. I would recommend Vetericyn antimicrobial ophthalmic gel. However, here is link that goes more in depth about treating eye injuries in poultry (I have found it helpful):

You can purchase Vetericyn eye gel at amazon.com (link below):
https://www.amazon.com/Vetericyn-Pl...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=P8TA61ZCTWHVYVC0VHXM

You can also purchase it at chewy.com (link below):

Thank you! My local Tractor Supply store carries these products and I will be picking them up right away! I had called them when we noticed the injury and the clerk told me they did not carry anything for chickens......you get extra points for knowing more than the store clerk! Without your help I would not have known these products exist! Thanks so much!

Thank you! I didn't think about the vitamins but we do have some I can add to their water! Anything extra that promotes healing! I appreciate your input! Thanks again!
