I just noticed this on my Roosters feet tonight. Not sure what his feet look like underneath but I will check it out in the morning and post more pictures that will hopefully help!

Is he walking/getting around ok? Eating/drinking? Any symptoms?
:pop I'm not experienced with ailments but watching to learn what is advised. For sure more pics needed ... Check under his feet & check his legs.

He is walking eating and drinking .I have noticed that he stands on one leg sometimes or he will lay down. His legs look good from what i could tell I just didnt want to take him out of the roost tonight and it was getting dark out. I will definitely have more pictures tomorrow

Has it been cold there? Could he have gotten frostbit?

I live in Michigan. That weather here has been all over the place. I didn't notice anything over the winter with his feet. I keep close tabs on that in the winter with my chickens and ducks. They are all free range so they are always out in the yard (5achers) and hardly go in the coop. In the winter they hate snow so they usually stay in the coop they don't even like going out in their run in the winter.

My chickens stay in the coop 24/7 during winter months. I still got frostbite really bad. Is there much ventilation in your chicken coop? Their breath is fairly wet I've heard, and can cause moisture, meaning frostbite even when it's not that terribly cold.

From my observation, it appears your rooster will lose the tip of that toe. Just make sure there's no bleeding, that could make the other chickens peck it and make your situation worse.

Ventilation is pretty good. We turned our shed into a chicken coop 4 years ago. We have two windows with screens and then the front is half open with chicken wire on both sides of their door and also they have a door for their outside run. Not sure if this could be the first stages of mites? I've been googling picture but can't really find anything like this.

These are the toes of my favorelle who refused to roost and lost all toes. If you look at his left foot, the tip of the middle toe is dead and eventually fell off, leaving all toes to appear like the middle toe on his right foot. They shrivel and turn blackish, then fall off later.
I've never had scaly leg mites, so you'll have to check for those. Regular mites usually hide underneath the feathers.
Keep an eye on him and take more pictures tomorrow :) we'll help you the best we can to figure this out
