Hey everyone. So I have a little birdie at my home who for very defensive today when my rooster came near his cage. He pecked my Brownie's left eye and now it is closed. I dipped some cotton in room temperature water (it was on the colder side) and pressed it over his eye.

The eye initially had water coming from it, but not anymore. It's been around 50 minutes since the injury happened, but his eye hasn't opened and it's red from the inside.

Please let me know what to do. Should I give him eye drops (my local stores have neosporin eye drops)? Or apply any ointment? Or wait? I don't want him to lose his eyesight or get an infection or anything bad to happen.

If he loses sight he would lose sight in just one eye he would still be able to live a happy life. It is obvious you love him a lot (sense he is your profile pic).

I would put eye disinfectant and if possible something to help heal on it . Also if he starts acting strange take him to the vet ASAP. Hope he heals ~ Cassie

The only safe things to use in the eye are saline or saline eye wash. Then, you could apply Terramycin, Erythromycin, or Neosporin (or a similar) eye ointment or drops. Terramycin is found in many feed stores in the US. I have used plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment before in a pinch. Hopefully, the eye is intact and will heal.

Hi! Thank you for the reply. His eye is still shut and he's been very tired and sleepy all day. I've given him vitamins and he's eating and drinking when I bring food to him.

Haven't applied any medicine on his eye yet. It's very dark like reddish and blacking inside. He opened it a couple of times but it's mostly closed. I think he got pecked in the white part of the eyeball.

I'm trying to arrange for neosporin eye drops. I'm in India and we have very strict lockdown going on right now. But I'll get it by tomorrow.

I'm also arranging for some vitamin a capsules and will be feeding him carrots and the white part of a boiled egg.

Do you think his eyesight will be affected? I'm very very scared about that.

Yup hes the one in my profile pic. My darling babu gave me a nice mother's day present yesterday 😭.

I'm going to take him to the vet today for an examination. Really really worried and I hope that his eye stays well.

I saw bleeding scab over the eyelids I recommend a vet trip for the examination and suggestions because of the extreme swelling around the eye .

Exactly with a loss of eye they can live a happy life my rooster also have low light in his eye that was affected with his huge comb .
I usually give Vitamin A and E for the proper health of the eyesight

I would recommend a small vet trip for outer examination and suggestions .
And the Ointment @Eggcessive suggest . Saline cleaning also (saline available to the chemists only check the ingredients before buying only saline nothing else)

Injuries also varies bird to bird some heal by warm compression some heal by cold compression like it's eye I suggest to use normal slightly lukewarm water that helps with swelling and Infection .

Other then then that if any thing noted in the eye like Infection antibiotic eye drops will be work
