Please post a picture.
Are you sure it is the professed breed?

How does he act and seem otherwise? Is he weak or active, lying around or hunched up, or is he able to eat and drink? A black comb in a normally red-combed rooster is a sign of not getting enough oxygen, either from heart or respiratory failure, or that he is dying. Is there any gasping, wheezing, rattles, or nasal drainage? Haveyou looked into his throat with a light? I have seen my rooster's comb become a little dark in cold weather or in times of stress, but it usually pinks up after a bit. Here is a good link to read about common respiratory and other diseases: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044
