Rooster has hole in a waddle

One of my roosters looked similar to yours once when he was in a fight with another rooster.

Maybe it's a fashion statement.... like some folks today that puts round holes in their ears! All kidding aside, I have no clue, that is very weird.

Seriously, unless you see what hurt a chicken you'll never really know. They can get hurt on air. Iv'e said "what did you do?" so many times to the chickens it isn't even funny.

Yes, I do have other roosters.

If the edges haven't clotted you can draw them together with surgical tape and the hole might mend

It looked like it didn't bleed.

The dog crate might be best right now, and keep it in the coop if possible so he can remain part of the flock. I will secure a coffee can full of water and a can of chicken feed to the dog crate sides so they don’t turn them over.

They do get along well, except for the newer, younger roos. They have been trying to get to the top of the pecking order but they have already climbed past Charcoal, so I don't know why they would attack him. He is so docile and would never attack another chicken for any reason. Unless they are hurting his ladies of course...

They can get hurt running away from another rooster banging into something rough or sharp around the coop or yard. Also, since you were away some type of predator might have done some of the damage.

Last year when I had too many young cockerels, my 2 year old rooster "Charlie" was knocked down to the lowest in the pecking order. They'd often pick on him, until I rehomed everyone except for Charlie.

Hmmm.... do you guys think it could be some sort of bacteria or virus rather than just some unfortunate mishap on the chicken's part?
