Rooster has scaly mites! Help me find a solution!

I used Sergeant's Gold dog shampoo with permethrin to gently splash my rooster's feet and legs (all the way to his elbows) and I did it for 5 minutes, then rinsed thoroughly with cool water. Repeated in 2 weeks. I coat all roosting boards weekly with food grade DE. This seems to work - so far have not had any more problems. I sent some photos to Dr. Brown and he said it looked like a classic case of scaly leg mites. As soon as the weather warms up I will clean thoroughly and re-whitewash both my henhouses then coat the floor with DE, sweeping the DE into the cracks between the 2x4s. I find that DE solves a lot of problems and I can't do without it - I use up about 10 pounds of it every 6 or 7 months. Keeps everything dry and I notice much less scratching and preening when I mix it in with the pine shavings, which I am currently mulching, but in hot months, I change the shavings out every month and apply the DE liberally to the floor before putting the shavings down.

We also use ivermectin (cattle 1%) but we gave it orally - 3 drops for bantams & 6 drops for large standard breeds. Legs healed over time & have not re-infested - now I give it once per year. Works on all mites. Before this we used it all - sulfer/vaseline, veg. oil, kerosene, Adams & Frontline spray. None of it worked for us until the ivermectin. We also spray nest boxes & roosts with a permethrin spray twice yearly.
