Poor guy!

It looks like his eye has been damaged severely and he's lost the eye. Would you agree @Eggcessive ?

I'd keep the eye cleaned with saline, then put a little Terramycin eye ointment in the eye a couple of times a day. Hopefully it will heal up with no issues.

If he's lost the use of the eye, then he'll be standoffish for a while. He will learn to adapt though, just work with him and see that he's eating/drinking o.k.

I’m picking up some terramycin tomorrow, and we’re gonna keep watch on him. He’s definitely standdoffish! He’s perking up a little bit more but we’ll keep an extra eye on him.

Yes, I agree that the eye is gone. He may have gotten a peck or other injury. Is he the only rooster? In a pinch I have used plain Neosporin triple antibiotic ointment in the eye twice a day. Terramycin is very good, but it can be hard to get since it seems to require a prescription sometimes. Jedd.com sells it without one. Vetericyn eye gel is also good, but expensive.

He is our only rooster, and 5 hens coming up on 5 months old all from TSC. Good to know that neosporin can work, thank you!!! He’s gonna be receiving as many treats as possible till he gets all better again.

It is pretty normal for a rooster you have raised to be a little standoffish. His job is to protect his hens and to warn them of danger, to find them food and treats, and to show them where to lay their eggs. I always get tickled when they show a new new layer how to jump into the nest box and show them where to lay her eggs.
