Hello, just let them free range today and noticed a funny patch on my roosters neck. Looks like molting but its middle of winter here. Theres just a patch of feathers missing. He likes to be left alone so tough to get good photos. Going to be cold tonight so I'll put up heat lamp if I should (bare skin).
Thanks

It appears your hens love this guy. Hens often nibble on a rooster's neck feathers, and he lets them do it. If it's just one hen, and if you can identify her, pinless peepers usually stops this behavior.

Thanks for the wisdom. Better than having to worry about a predator in the run.
I have so far seen him active with 6-7 hens so might be tough. I'll have to research this behavior a bit to see what to look for.
Thanks

Have several birds with nibbled necks, both the cock and some hens.
Have also seen birds standing calmly picking and eating each others face feathers.

I caught her in the act. I have rooster booster peck no more will it help? Or is pinless peepers the only way?

You can try the Pick-no-mor. I've tried it and had zero luck with it. It just made a big greasy mess of the feathers that made it appear as though the chicken had been rolling around in axle grease. The picking continued and it seemed like the chickens enjoyed the taste of it.

I've had this happen a few times over the years. It's always been the dominant rooster, and he always just happily sits there while his ladies pluck his neck bald....
I've never intervened, and for whatever reason, every time, after a week or so they just stopped.
I never understood why the hens did it, or why they quit...
Chickens can be so weird 🤔
