Rooster is breathing odd have given antibotic for 10 day but he is worse

My Rooster has been wheezing and coughing for 10 days or so. I started him on tetracycline 250mg in his water daily. He appeared to get better and the yeasterday he is getting weaker. He had been eating today he did not. Do you think it would help to bring him in the house where it is warmer or is be better off in the shed out of the wind and cold but temps he is already use to? Check into this thread. It could very well be something fungal and not contagious.

We had to cull a rooster and a hen yesterday due to coughing and sneezing and runny nose. Couldnt risk infecting the rest in the coop. Made me sad tho.

I have not seen any discharge at all.

The Rooster is not in with the rest of the chickens so at least I dont have to worry about it spreading.

No discharge in nose definitely leads me to believe it's fungal. Treat with Oxine.

It cured my boy Gigi in less than a week. He showed improvement almost instantly and cough was gone within 5 days. Chest was clear after 7 days. He started crowing again.

It is used in a humidifier or with a fine mist spray bottle. They breathe in the vapours and it attacks the spores that have taken up residence in the lungs.


I'm so sorry to hear your rooster is not doing well at all. If he is not eating or drinking, that is not a good sign at all

It could be fungal as Aoxa mentioned. It could also possibly be capillary worms in the crop. I recommend taking a fecal sample to a vet for testing. Treatment for capillary worms is valbazen liquid cattle/sheep wormer or safeguard liquid goat wormer 1/2cc given orally undiluted, repeat dosing again in 10 days.
