Rooster is waking up the neighbor. *MORE UPDATES*

Call your neighbor at 3:59 am, so you wake the neighbor up.

What about a smaller cage in the coop - cover it with a blanket so the rooster stays darker, so hopefully he crows later.

YES! Great question! She did actually say after a moment that she was stressed out about other things that were keeping her awake and that she heard him crowing at 4:00 am. She said she was a "cool" person and wanted to let me know because he may be waking up other neighbors. Maybe I should write a letter to all my neighbors notifying them that I do have a rooster which is legal in our area, but also apologize for any noise he may be causing and explain that I'm working on keeping him quiet. What do you think?

By the way, how are things out on the Island? Are you a Mets fan? I live at 8802 107th st Richmond Hills Queens for 13 years before dad yankeed the family out to Indy in 1976. Once a Mets fan, ALWAYS a Mets fan.

This is the letter all of the neighbors will be getting. Feel free to copy it for your own use.

Hello neighbors,

I just wanted to write a note to all of you concerning my pet rooster, Pauly. I've
noticed that he's recently started to crow more often during the day and I want to apologize if he is being disruptive. I have him locked up in a hen house with our five hens from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am to protect them from predators and also in an attempt to keep Pauly's crowing muffled while we sleep. It's been brought to my attention that he is sometimes crowing even while it's dark out. I personally don't hear him, because my windows are closed with the central air running. I hope he is not waking any of you. When the weather cools more at night, the windows to the hen house will be covered with glass to keep the chickens warm which will also muffle the sounds further. I know that keeping chickens (and roosters) is legal in the town of Southampton, but I do not want any bad feelings with any of you. We carefully researched the care of keeping chickens in the backyard and are currently enjoying the fact that they eat tick and mosquitos and provide our garden with fertilizer. We are taking great care to keep their coop clean as to not cause any bad odors or unhealthy living conditions. And of course, very soon, we will be blessed with organic fresh eggs! Feel free to come and visit our chickens anytime. They are very friendly! Please know that we are doing everything in our power to keep this a positive experience and let us know if any of your have been effected negatively because of it.Thank you and I hope you are all well.

Sinceley,

Well since all the great players I followed as a kid are long gone from the game. I don't watch too many games either. And we only get the NFL package and not the baseball deal on Direct TV. My wife is from northern Indiana, and she likes the Tigers, ONLY cause her dad taught her to. And her dad must be a good dude, cause he raised chickens for years and years. Had up to 1,500 at his peak. Good luck with the note. We live in the city too. Our yard is big enough ( 3 acres all fenced in ) to shelter many of the nicer birds from the neighbors ears. But, I have several variety's, and am working on making plenty of indoor pens in our pole barn for winter. I like to grow out my birds before I decide who I keep. Have some fun and hope the neighbors decide to not listen.

I think it is a great note. The only thing is maybe don't mention the smell issue. Some people like to complain about anything and may latch onto that and feel the need to complain/worry about smell. I would keep it short and sweet. Good job addressing the problem. I had to speak with each one of my neighbors too. When I spoke with them they didnt seem to mind. Hope it all works out.

My husband thinks, but is not positively sure, that he heard the rooster crowing at 12:00 am last night and the neighbor yelling at him to shut up! I called her to verify, but she didn't answer so I left a message. I think if it was not a dream I'll be looking for a new home for him.

I hope it was just a dream!
