We were gone for a day and my ducks and chickens were together in the coop. Never had a problem before. Came home to find one of my Pekin ducks on the brink of death. She had a hole in her head and missing an eye. Did my rooster kill my duck? His spur looks bloody and broken. He is now attacking me, which he’s never done before. What happened? Could it have been because they were cooped up for a day instead of free ranging?

It's sounds like it. I wouldn't doubt it.

It was probably because it was a change in routine, that didn't sit well with him.

Also, how old is the roo?

Were any strangers caring for the chickens, that normally they did not see? You may want to carefully watch his behavior with your other birds. Being cooped up is very stressful to birds who usually are free ranged. It gives more room to get away. He probably is having a hormone surge right now, and feeling more controlling. If he acts aggressive I would pen him up by himself for awhile. Sorry for your loss.
