I have a maturing 5-month old rooster. He was born with a toe missing and has a little stub about a third of the length of the toe that's supposed to be there. All the time I see him lifting this foot up as though it hurts to put pressure on it, and I mean ALL the time. I've looked at his little stub and there aren't any wounds, is there anything I should be looking for or is there anyway I could make him more comfortable?
Will upload a picture if it helps.

Interesting. While it's normal for chickens to rest one leg by drawing it up while standing on one leg, this action does signify the possibility the foot is causing discomfort.

You have no doubt examined the pads for splinters and scabs and checked the scales for any that might be lifting up, indicating scaly leg mites which can cause pain.

But there is also a very small chance that there's a vestigial nail on the stubby toe that might be ingrown. Get in good light and look very carefully for such a thing. It could cause quite a bit of pain and you might need to remove it.

I'll have a closer look once I'm able to, I have checked his pads and scales and they seem to be in the clear but I'll check again with a light. Thanks a bunch!
