I have a 1 year Phoenix rooster. I’ve had him about six months and he lives in a flock with 18 mixed breed hens. I noticed 3 weeks ago he wasn’t acting like his “cocky” self. At first I thought maybe the hens had been picking on him, but he had no marks on him. When I found him last week in the back corner of the pen. I isolated him for a few days. He seemed to get a little better after 5 days (not completely back) but I let him back with flock. After 3 days with flock he seemed worse than ever, almost blind and disoriented. He didn’t gather for food. He would take food I put right in front his beak (I made him scrambled eggs) but when I removed food, he was still lunging for it like it was there. His eyes look fine but he acts almost blind and feels light. I’ve isolated him again but I wonder if he has a diffeciency or maybe have gotten into something poisonous. He looks fine, his cone may be not as vibrant red as usual. My chickens free range 3 acres. Any help is appreciated or ideas of how to treat if I can save him on my own. He is a sweet beautiful rooster. I use him when I talk to kids groups in 4-H at Ag-Edventures.
