rooster losing tail feathers

Hi everyone. I have noticed my roo losing his feathers too several weeks ago. he is 10 months old and has gone thru his first winter here in NH. I was afraid he had a parasite because I thought he was too young to molt. I was thinking about getting him a large chicken apron to protect his bare skin. Any thoughts????? How do I check for mites? My hens and roo free range everyday even int he winter if they can. The dust bath under my shed if nothing is available outside their run.

My hens have been picking at my roosters feathers all around his body, it has gotten to the point where ypu can see his flesh and all his tail feathers are gone, it has gotten to the point where the hebs are now picking at his bear flesh witch is causeing him to bleed. Is this a sign on the hens picking mites off him?

Hi guys

My white silkie Roo Ivan is losing loads of feathers, I never find them but they are no longer attached to him!! There are some really long feather spikes instead, especially all around his head and neck/hackles! He looks like his head is sitting on a pin cushion! He wont let me take pics (I think he is self concious). Still eating well, still very active. None of the girls have been bullying him, but we did dispatch his brother two weeks ago, could he be pining??? He is ten months old.

Please say its just a moult!!! I'm really worried about him!

Our rooster, a year old a week ago today, is down to 2 tail feathers. He looks ridiculous. Got them at 3 days old so coming on his second winter. Hopefully it's just molting and they grow back. None of the girls pick on him and he acts the same.

I just got on here to see why a rooster would loose it's tail feathers. didn't know they molt too. lost some of his leg feathers too. it is fall or almost so I guess that is what it is doing. should I still check for mites and such? he is big and bad but I can get close enough to pick him up without him getting me. He hates me. lol lol but he is a good watch Roo and a good daddy roo. would hate to loose him. even if he goes out of his way to flog me.

YAY! glad to see Roosters molt too. I thought only hens did. Our hens molted in the spring and my son's favorite rooster (we have 3) has lost his tail just recently. The other 2 haven't. He was all worried about it so I decided to try to look up info. I'll let him know after school today.
