Our 2 Year old Dominique Rooster has suddenly lost his voice. He appears healthy otherwise, but when he puffs up, flaps his wings and tries to crow, a pathetic squeaking sound comes out.

Any ideas about what's up........and/or a fix or cure?

Thanks for any help.....

Hmm, maybe a sore throat? I'm not sure if chickens can get sore throats but you never know! Hopefully it isn't a sign of something worse.

has he been exposed to any dusts or molds?

http://www.firststatevetsupply.com/store/

click disinfectant for Oxine.

info about some forms of respiratory illness:

http://www.shagbarkbantams.com/page11.htm

for now..I'd get some Tylan 50 injectable..and syringes..available at most farm/feed/livestock supply stores
(and at the first link).other meds with info available..
click antibiotics..injectables and water solubles...

always remember that chickens, especially roos, hide illness till they are very sick.
a hoarse crow is a possible early symptom of respiratory illness.

give extra protein, such as egg..keep well fed..and give vitamins..poultry vitamins..
or Poly-vi-sol liquid baby vitamins,,Enfamil brand..No IRON..give 3 drops on beak once a day for 2 days, then 2 drops for 2 days then 1 drop for 3 days.
keep warm, dry and protected from draft.

if you can separate the roo to a warm dry place, it could help keep the others from catching whatever he might have.

just watch for symptoms..and try and determine if there are any molds or dusts around.
make sure coop is clean and no ammonia fumes.

what bedding are you using?

My Rooster had been fine up until this morning and now he is doing one of those swarky crows also. I think I saw one of my pullets sneezing, are they all getting sick on me? My husband wanted to know if they can make us sick?
