mots of you know our newest member to the flock Demarcus our blue gold-laced Americana. he's adapted amazingly. he likes the ladies and the ladies like him to. he used to have some extra meat on him almost like a meat chicken but now (a month later) he seems to have lost a bit of weight. he still healthy-looking. he dustbathes he talks he eats and comes for the treats we give them. my only question is if this is normal. this is our very first Americana chicken ever and i don't know much about them.

side note: im thinking its possibly because he didn't have access to much food and water in the park where we found him but he doesn't eat continuously like our other ladies do and he sips water about 3 times a day. his poops are incredibly tiny to smaller than a Ferrero rocher. is this normal?

Maybe he's getting more exercise mating the ladies or too focused on mating and guarding the ladies to eat as much as he was??

Did you weight him? Can you post pics of him and his poo?

Now, if he didn't have much access to food and water at the park... then why would having that access at your place cause weight loss? What do you feed including treats?

Are you able to take a fecal sample to the vet or do a mail order one and check for internal parasites? Adding your general location to your profile might help folks make the best suggestions possible at a glance. ;)

I have never see a gold laced Ameraucana... thinking he is either an Easter Egger or cross breed, or possibly just mistaken about breed or excessive pattern leakage?? Is that him in your avatar photo? :pop

How big are his spurs? That might be an indicator of his age... which could help point to any developmental factors. Some diseases do cause a slow wasting of sorts... but I usually try not to jump to any conclusions especially when there are no other indicators of such. :fl
