Yesterday was super cold and windy (not unusual so far this winter) but with freezing rain and snow. I didn’t even open the coop since I knew the birds would not free range or come out if the coop in that weather. I went out several times to check in them and all was fine. Today, even though cold, the wind died down so I opened the coop. I found the rooster making a weird noise every time he breathes. Kinda like a snore or kazoo sound. He did go out briefly this afternoon and I heard it again. I have seen him drink. They have rooster booster water in a heated waterer in the coop. He has gotten frostbite on his huge wattle and some in his comb (he is a leghorn) from free ranging in the cold. He is hard to catch in the daytime unless he is right by the door. I didn’t notice any drainage from the side of the his face I could see. Any advice? Please help!!

I've experienced this with hens but not a cockerel before. It could have long grass in its crop or just a blockage. Its usually best to help quickly. I have uses warm (not hot) water to sooth the crop. If that does not work then try a little bit of natural yoghurt, because of the enzymes it helps break it down the blockage. However this could obviously be over heating or too cold and just a one of.

My chickens do this when they are cold. I think it's a stuffy nose or something, since their breathing definitely sounds muffled. I put a heater next to them and it usually goes away the next day.
I cant do a heater. I wonder if I should bring him into the garage for a night??

I would put him in a crate in the coop with a heat lamp not good for him to be out in below freezing weather.

I did give them meal worms and scratch yesterday in the coop. Wonder if something is lodged. Do you give warm water in a syringe?

that would work- what is the average temperature in your area zone?
Not sure what the average has been. But the high will be 55 one day and 18 the next. Not including the wind. Right now it is 13 with the wind chill its 2. Its gotten down to -8 around Christmas. It will get down to 5 tonight they say.

It's strange because I have gone out there two times to check on him and he isn't making the noise. Very weird.....

Google stridor, and see if that may be the problem. It happens when something gets in the airway (food, mucus, or a foreign object) and creates a high pitched wheezing noise on breathing in and out. Many times this will last a couple of hours and clear on it's own, but if it persists, I would look inside the that with a flashlight for anything unusual. Any other symptoms, such as gasping, watery or bubbly eyes, nasal drainage, or cough/sneeze could be common with a respiratory disease, such as MG or others.
