I got two Amercauna chicks at the same time as I got Ancona ducklings so they were raised together this spring. The chick that ended up being a rooster appears to have really imprinted with the ducks. He never "crossed over" to the chickens as he got older, even tried swimming with the ducks (just once), but has taken on the role of head duck. I do have drakes, but this rooster is in charge. But he will mate the female ducks and not the hens. He does not try to mate the drakes, so it is not just a dominance thing. Is this okay? I didn't really want a rooster, but he is gorgeous and fast so I still have him. My other rooster ignores him and herds the hens, and this rooster stays with the ducks. It won't hurt the female ducks will it? Or prevent the drake from mating the ducks? Okay with me if he thinks he is a duck, although he neither quacks or walks like one. LOL.
