I think it is possible he's trying to tell the girls this would be a good nesting spot. Roosters do point those kind of places out, but usually hens ignore him (that's what women do) and find their own nesting place.

I tried this tonight. Walked around the bed a few times, ruffled the sheets, "clucked" a bit. Funny it didn't work for me either? Wife just looked at me weird and ignored me. I guess some laws of nature are common regardless of species

Three of my roos do that too. My 1 1/2 year old boy's favorite spot is right against the back door. He will nap after all of the cooing if the other birds stay away from him.
