Today I followed a hen accross the road who had a nest of 19 eggs, I took her back to the coop and put those eggs in the nest in hopes she would stay there, that didn't work ofcourse.
Here's the strange thing, My Australorp rooster made a nest, separated some ferns in a corner between a water tank and a retaining wall.. he dug a bit and made a nest out of the ferns and grass there.
He then began to call profusely in-till all the hens gathered, He then moved aside and let a hen in where she sat for a while and layed an egg... she moved away.. rooster made more sounds and then the hens switched over... all 4 hens laid an egg in the same spot co-ordinated by the rooster in the nest he made..
Sounds like a family man
In all the years of having chickens i've never seen such behaviour!
