Today I followed a hen accross the road who had a nest of 19 eggs, I took her back to the coop and put those eggs in the nest in hopes she would stay there, that didn't work ofcourse. [IMG]

Here's the strange thing, My Australorp rooster made a nest, separated some ferns in a corner between a water tank and a retaining wall.. he dug a bit and made a nest out of the ferns and grass there.

He then began to call profusely in-till all the hens gathered, He then moved aside and let a hen in where she sat for a while and layed an egg... she moved away.. rooster made more sounds and then the hens switched over... all 4 hens laid an egg in the same spot co-ordinated by the rooster in the nest he made..
Sounds like a family man [IMG]

In all the years of having chickens i've never seen such behaviour!

I have seen it a couple times over last year. Somehow hen ellicits behavior in rooster. Once she commits to a spot he stops. Apparently not all roosters do otherwise more observations would be reported.
