Rooster neutering?

I am wanting to get my show rooster neutered, and I wondering if they will still be agressive? Thanks in advance, and yes I know this is an odd question lol.

It's called caponizing, and is usually done when they are chicks, ostly to affect the quality of the meat, and the size of the adult meat bird. How old is he? It may not have much affect on his behavior if he is mature. it is also much more dangerous when oldeer, although not a safe procedure when youg, either.

He is about 3 months, and that thread is very very helpful! Thank you so much! So have you ever done it yourself? Also would vets be able to do it?

No, I haven't. A vet could, but you would probably be hard pressed to find one willing to do it. Also, please keep in mind that it is illegal in some places.

Once he is caponized he is useless for a show bird. Don't do it unless you intend to roast him.

My partner and I are both vegetarian. Our chickens are companion animals first, layers second. We don't have any roosters, as we are uncomfortable eating fertilized eggs. We had two of our chicks turn out to be cockerels this year, and are basically heart broken at the idea of giving them up. We are too worried that they will end up on a table, despite offering them as "pet only" if re-homed. Is it absolutely unheard of to have my avian vet neuter the two boys so we can keep them? Cost is not an issue, so other than financial or "whats the point of having a bird that doesn't lay, protect or breed" arguments... opinions?

Yes, an avian vet will probably do it. Most vets (even livestock) just don't even deal with chickens. Plenty of people do their pet roosters.

I sought her out for my chickens solely, as I have a vet for my lizards, a vet for my cats (cat only practices are less stressful to my rescue cat), and a vet for the dogs. The whole flock of girls I have were checked out by her when we got them, and will get in home annuals as well. If anyone is capable id assume its her. I mostly just want to know if that is even something people do... I keep hearing that i'm nuts.
