I bought 11 chickens two and half weeks ago, and one of which is a 16 month old rooster. The rooster is a FBCM and he is beautiful and very calm and friendly. There are three Maran hens of the same age, and seven olive eggers that are supposed to be six months old, but none of which are laying. In fact I have only gotten 5 eggs from one of the Maran hens so far. In two and half weeks I haven't scene the beautiful rooster mate with a single hen. He pretty much spends all his time with the Maran hens but isn't interested in doing his fertilizing job. He is too sweet and friendly to ever get rid of, but I want to have fertile eggs. Should I get another FBCM rooster, and If so what age rooster should I get? Is it likely the older rooster and the new one will fight? Will he eventually get interested in the younger Olive eggers also? The most he has ever done is walk up sideways to a hen and she will squat down and he just stands there looking puzzled. Help! Thanks, Kern

You just moved the flock - they are adjusting and settling in so you'll need to give things some time. Also, not seeing mating does not mean that mating is not occurring. Have you examined the germinal discs of any of the eggs you have gotten to see if they show a bullseye?
