The one in the back was sold to me as a Barred Rock pullet, but others have suggested it looks more like a maran. The one in the back has a single comb and the one in the front has the more rose/flat comb

can you show a pic of its comb from the front? And it standing on its own? The skin color should be more gray. I really don't think that's a marans. At 3 months its comb is the size mine (the girls) were at 3 weeks. I've had 3 different lines so I'm pretty confident combs in marans are large and boys make themselves obvious by 6 weeks. Now - I'm not sure if you mixed a marans with a Easter egger what would happen as far as the comb.

Here's a pic of my hatchery Dominique when she was 3 months old. Note the overall darker look and the distinct black wash down the front of her legs versus your chick's lighter look and pale legs. However, if you have a barnyard mix I think the normal signs of female versus male may not hold true.

The chick in the front from your original post, right? I'm still thinking it's a he and that does look like the rose comb of a Dominique.
