Rooster or Hen?

Debating on if these 2 are roosters or hens. Anyone able to determine? They are Rhode Island Reds. Thank you in advance!

How old? Their feathers are a little scraggly right now.

Please confirm age.

Yes it all depends on age, but those blueish tail feathers are looking suspicious...

True age is unknown, the prior owner had them for a month and we have had them for 3 weeks. The prior owner didn't know much history except that where she got them from wasn't the best conditions and was advised they were pullets. Their feathers have become better since we've had them. We are new to chickens so any help is appreciated.

It's been a while between chicken flocks, but I don't recall RIR hens having those pretty green tail feathers....

Ok, I'm going to say pullets then.

I wouldn't worry about the black tail feathers sheening all those pretty colors. All black feathers on any black bird of any gender will sheen. My black jersey giant sheens in greens, blues and purples all over her body and she lays a lovely speckled brown egg.

That is true but I don't think hens would get those hackles
