A picture from the side would help--the saddle feathers (just in front of the tail) can be really helpful in figuring out the chicken's gender. (Roosters get long pointy ones, hens always have ones with rounded ends.)

Then either it's a female, or it's a young male--different males get the saddle feathers at different ages.

You might be right. It can be quite hard to tell in pictures, but you can look at the chicken from all directions and move her into better light and so forth--so you're in the best position to tell right now!
