Hello folks, I am hoping y’all can determine what this silkie chicken is. We adopted it from some friends who could no longer keep it. They told us they thought it was a hen because it had never crowed. We’ve had it for a week and also haven’t heard any crowing. It’s really a gentle chicken, loves being held, and will eat out of our hands. Any help would be appreciated.

Pics are hard to have a good look, but I'll venture forth.

How old? It looks adult, at any rate.

From what looks like bars on the wings and the size of the comb, I would say rooster. Not all roosters crow, especially if they are the only one in the flock, or a younger male.

You may need to wait for a crow or egg. Silkies are hard to sex...but with that much comb, I'm fairly certain male. Female Silkies, even mature, have hardly any comb.
