Rooster or hen?

Hello again!
Novice chicken owner just trying to figure out the intricate differences between roosters and hens.
So what do you think? Rooster or hen?
I have no info on breed, but was told its 1 year old.

It's a buff Orpington hen.

Oh thank goodness! I have too many roosters as it is. I just brought her home today. Time to get that zip tie off of her, not sure why they were zip tied her in the first place

I hate when people do that. It seems cruel and unnecessary.

I'm not sure how cruel it is as long as you make sure they're not too tight.
I zip tied to identify when recessive genes were being carried.
For instance outward appearance of a black, black carrying lavender and black carrying mottling are all the same. I needed a way to keep track for breeding purposes.

I meant more for transporting purposes. Doesn't seem necessary if you have a good box.
