At the very beginning when they are first hatched females will have two layers of feathers on their wings while males will have just one straight row or you could tell by their feces (i forgot the difference, males were lumpy and females was "smooth" I think). It's going to be hard to tell at that age. Me personally, I just wait it out because certain characteristics that males have, some females will have depending on the breed and it just gets confusing. (Game hens have spurs and such) :/

This is actually not true - wing sexing is accurate and effective ONLY with crosses using specifically selected parent stock with males being of fast feathering breeds and females being of slow feathering breeds so that the resulting chicks hatch with sex linked feathering rates making it possible to accurately sex them within the first three days of life.
