Rooster or hen?

Hmmm well being someone who doesn't know much about chickens I'm struggling a bit to understand all the genetics. I've got the part where my chickens are most likely roosters but the rest is going over my head :)
So, I'm going to start a new thread to find out what type of breed they may be... I was told Australorp x Sussex but probably not true ???

Haha don't worry too much, chicken genetics is intimidating at first by the complexity compared to most animal genetics.

Right. If they have yellow legs, then they are not this cross, period.

This is how crosses between a black chicken and colored chicken looks like:

The amount of brown is variable, from very little to lots. But they never look like your red one, it is genetically impossible. for detailed answer- the red one is wheaten, it does not have the black gene E or ER at all.

To be honest.. the white one looks like a leghorn or leghorn cross and red one is either ISA Brown(not it if truly a rooster) or ISA crossed with something brown or red with black tail and neck(extremely likely if a rooster).

Kev, I have just hatched australorp x platinum Sussex chicks, they have a white fluffy underside and black heads and backs with mostly white legs with some black markings, can't wait to see what they turn out like, any ideas
