Rooster or hen? We were told she/he is a cochin/silkie mix. Has 5 toes and obviously feathered legs. Approximately 1 year, I've been wrong on Cochins before and want to make sure this time. Thanks

Since I have everyone's attention, how about this ameracauna, we were told hen and a year old when we got her about 2-3 months ago but she hasn't laid any eggs yet so I'm beginning to worry. Love her anyways but hoping maybe she's just a little younger than we thought. Can you tell I'm new to this whole chicken thing? Lol!!

Also your Ameraucana is an Easter Egger, meaning that she is a mixbreed (usually with an Ameraucana) with the "blue egg gene". Easter Eggers will lay white, tinted, brown, blue, or greenish eggs depending on the cross and how diluted their blue egg gene is. EEs can come muffed or not muffed and they will come in an array of colors unlike Ameraucanas who according to the standard only come in the colors: Black, Blue, Blue Wheaten, Brown Red, Buff, Silver, Wheaten & White. Ameraucanas should only lay blue eggs, have muffs and beards, full tails, white skin, blue or black colored legs, and have a pea comb. :)

i think your silky mix is a hen also i see nothing thats says roo both are beautiful birds, i love the silky cochin cross.

I don't have an opinion on the Cochin/silkie mix but your Easter Egger is a pullet/hen. Is there a place she could be hiding her eggs? They could be brown eggs like any other hen you have.

I'm pretty sure your Cochin/silkie is a hen and your EE is definitely a hen. My EE took 32 weeks to lay, so some birds just take longer than others. Since your Cochin is part silkie, and silkies in general take a while to lay, it's possible that she may start any day or take a bit longer.
