We currently have 3 hens and one rooster for almost 2 years now. Wondering if it would upset our hens if we got rid of our rooster. We have the chickens for eggs. And actually they are not laying eggs nearly as much as last year.
Is this normal? But mostly curious if the hens would either be upset or happy that we got rid of him.
Appreciate some advice. Thanks!

Interesting question. Some people will tell you that when they got rid of their rooster the hens were extremely happy. Others will tell you that the hens missed him.

In either case, chickens are adaptable. They will get used to it. I would not hesitate to get rid of him if you don't have a use for him.

As far as the eggs, possibly your hens are already slowing down due to age. Do you have production birds?

If you really don't want the rooster you don't have to keep him. Though if he's been good to the hens they may miss him (if he's been mean to them, they won't!) Either way don't be surprised if they stop laying for a bit due to the change in their flock order.
