Rooster question

I have one more question about roosters? This may be dumb but once they learn to crow, when do you notice them doing it? One chicken owner told me they do it when they are mad. I am wondering because my neighbor has a rooster that crows from daylight til dark, all day long. I did re-home 3 of my cockerels this weekend and when I put them in a dog crate to transport, the one who had been trying previously crowed several times, anger or distress I wonder? Since they are gone, the one I kept got separated from the pullets during building of a temporary run and he started to try to crow which is his first. Calling to the others or distressed? And why does the neighbors free range rooster crow constantly I wonder?
Thanks for additional info.

For me it’s obvious when they crow, it’ll be the worse possible sound you can think of and might sound as if someone’s dying. They often do it out of competition and sometimes if they see predators.

I’m in a current situation similar to yours other then the fact I’ve been raising boys for awhile.
Lots of birds no matter the sex, once they become overly friendly can be aggressive, not all though as I’ve had several friendly chickens and almost never an Aggressive one.
