Luckily we saw him poop so I put it in a water bottle shook it up with some flotation solution I made from Epsom salt after 5 min I poured what was on top about a cap full into another bottle then filled it with solution and topped off the bottles
waited 5 min and put a slide cover on each bottle to make 2 slides
Didn't see anything moving in either slide and unfortunately my microscope does not have a scale
I am getting a wire ran up my spine tomorrow
But if I can get some of his fresh poop will try to drop it off before I go in

Fascinating slides. I'd love to get a microscope someday.

I have to be honest about the poop: Although this is my first year raising chickens, I've done lots of reading, and I don't recall having seen something like that before. The color is very concerning.

I'm hoping someone else with more experiences can chime in and offer you some thoughts on this. I think the Chicken Chick put together a chart of poop photos with explanations of what each one could mean.

But wonderful news Johnny is progressing so well. I'm just really curious about his dropping and what we're seeing with the color.

Does look like it could just be cecal poop
First time I have seen one like that Have seen brown - red cecal poop before but not foamy
He might just have a little case of the runs from the electrolytes I started putting in the water
Back pain if it helps will be well worth it had the trial where they ran the wire and taped the control box to me it seemed to help a lot
This time they will implant the control box so its permanent

The slides are interesting, but I know not what they tell.

The poop does look like a cecal poop (normal) to me. Is it pretty stinky?

Never thought about smelling it
Was trying to do the opposite actually lol
I was thinking cecal poop, too. I hope BOTH of you have great recoveries!
Johnny is completely back to normal
I am doing pretty good
Think the hardest thing is not doing anything for 2+ weeks have to wait until it scars up inside to hold the wires in place because if they move they may not work properly
and just reaching wrong or above my head could cause them to move

The foamy cecal poop in that link is *not* normal! Foamy poop can be protozoa or worms.
I was really worried when I saw him drop that
Luckily he has not dropped any more or at least any that I have seen
Since that poop I haven't found anything else that didn't look normal and he has been acting normal
I didn't get my truck fixed before my surgery
But can drive the wife to work on Monday to use her car to take some of Johnny's poop in
I did find a mobile farm vet that will come out for $65 and if they look everything over would defiantly be worth it but was hoping to do that after Christmas
I have been reading up a little about doing fecal floats so will try to test a sample before Monday but still will take one in
I only have a cheap microscope and it does not have a scale so learning to identify stuff will probably be a steep learning curve
I cropped

a better image of that poop
