I have a rooster who is continually losing weight and his bottom/abdomen is enlarged and heavy. i suspected a tumor. it's not vent gleet but is suspect it is caused by feeding oats.Any help appreciated. thanks

Do you have any pictures of him or his bottom? Oats by themselves are not a complete feed. He should be getting an all flock feed, although some feed their roosters layer feed. Is he having any trouble breathing? It sounds like he could have ascites or water belly, which can be a sign of heart failure, liver disease, and cancer.

Thanks for the info. I will research ascites. His rear end was hardened and heavy. Unfortunately, he passed away today. I am mystified by this disease. I have had several birds (some roosters and a few hens) succumb to this disease whatever it is. I suspect its because of the feed. And i have been recently feeding a ration which has a high soy content and i suspect that soy may be the culprit or contribute to this disease. Thanks again.

Very sorry for your loss. Where are you located? A state poultry vet can perform a necropsy to look for a cause of death. Here is a list of them in case it happens again:

I would recommend feeding an all flock feed, such as Purina Flock Raiser.
