My 2 year old rooster got sick 2 days ago. I found it inside the coop late afternoon way too early for bedtime but didn’t think more of it. Yesterday he didn’t leave the run or garden but stayed inside the coop. I moved him outside but he didn’t move much. He wasn’t eating or drinking. I called the vet who prescribed antibiotics that we have been administering since last night. We also have him water by syringe to keep him hydrated and he actually started drinking by himself this morning when he was out inside the run (isolates from the hens). But this afternoon he seems drowsy and flaying flat on his belly, not eating or drinking.
I noticed he seems to twitch his head more than usual. And he seems to be panting, when I hold him. Checked his feathers but can’t see any eggs or lice on him. He does seem to have liquid ooo but no dropping this night in his confinement cage. The weather is 20 degrees Celsius so no heat wave or unusual weather conditions
We checked the coop for lice but can’t see any - we lost 2 hens a few years back to lice.
Last week we introduced to new hens to the flock (3x 3 year old hens) not sure if they could passed on something to him? Also we have no eggs since the arrival but that’s probably a different issue.
So what else than giving him antibiotics and hydrating can we do? Force-feed him?
thanks in advance
