Rooster struck at husband, now me. What can I do?

Usually it seems sudden, because reading early signs takes experience.
Wear at least jeans and boots out there! He will be able to hurt you through the jeans, but not as much, and his spurs are still small.
Mary
Thank you Mary, I will check those articles out!

not his fault...your rooster has gone bad. ....alot of them do.
Some roosters are just power tripping idiots in my opinion. And need to be culled.
Your husband however is probably a keeper.
I am currently loosing my husband to cancer and would give anything to have the time back that i spent mad at him for this trivial thing or that absolute meaningless nothing.
Focus on the stuff that matters.
So sorry to hear that! Sounds like you have a wonderful love story...Thanks for helping me remember the big picture! My husband actually has no idea that I'm "mad" at him, so all is well (except for my naughty rooster)!

I'm going to devil's advocate that teeny tiny rooster.
I think he's just incredibly stupid right now, and that is normal.
No male of any type gets smarter during puberty.
He will get better, they don't stay like that lol.
Ignore him, best thing you can do .
Treat him like the sulky, ungrateful brat that he is and ignore him.
He's dumb as a post at the moment anyway, so you're actually being kind.
He's not ruined, but he is in one of the most taxing life stages they have. :)

Yes! This made me laugh...so, I can easily shower my hen with attention instead, or even my husband, but meanwhile, how long does "chicken puberty" take?

@Chickassan
Your profile pic...greatness...

Sorry! I went to sleep was not planning on a surprise nap but I got one lol.
Anyway for my boys the really bad stuff were maybe two months.
They're all a little unique though,so you have to have wiggle room absolutely everywhere.
You never get the same "bloom into manhood" you won't get bored lol.
I don't dread this stage anymore, can almost tell the second it starts by now.
The first time im absolutely dumbfounded, or mortified seems to be pretty accurate.
The only two constants he's going to confuse you or gross you out, typical teenager.:)

@minaayindra

Lol! Yes I agree: the ax would be out!
I just got home and fully read your very helpful post and Billy is awesome! Here is my guy:

I have 2 hens exactly like him- no wonder they rule the roost, literally! Must be an assertive breed of poultry, but they are great with people, not the other hens.

I would suggest feeding your rooster and letting him call the girls to the feed. Those are his ladies not yours. When I go out with food or treats, the dominant roo gets a bit of whatever I have and he calls his girls over. Then I can toss out the rest for everyone and all is well.
I second not petting the rooster. They're very sweet as youngsters but when their hormones get going all bets are off. Please, no matter what you do, don't chase the roo or hit him with a stick, or hold him upside down by his feet.

SO true- as Billy is getting past his first surge of hormones, he is definitely mellowing out. I do try ignoring him and not looking at him, moving past as if he were completely inconsequential and he looks confused and stops. Of course, on the days he decides to pull a sneak attack, he can't get anywhere through the jeans and boots so he looks humiliated again and walks off. I never act like he's God's gift to the universe but I do talk to him when I'm running around. Thanks for acknowledging he is not ruined; he's just doing his job (and well I might add).
