Tylosin dosage is usually 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days to drink all day. If he isn’t drinking well giving it with food and water. Tube feeding is something to consider. It is quick and easy to learn, but not something everyone would do. Here is some info on it:

I thought Dose age depended on size? He is relatively small for a Rooster. His hen counterparts are also closer to Bantam size. They told me just under a 1/4 of a tablespoon but maybe I should give that 3x daily. I may just call back and see what they say. I didn’t mix it with much water bc I wanted to give it manually as he’s not drinking on his own.

When mixed 1 tsp per gallon, they get the right dose for their size if drinking normally. Do you have Tylosin powder for the water or Tylan 50? You would want to give him about 5-10 mg per pound 3 times a day. If you follow your vet’s recommendation, try to get that into his beak 2-3 times a day.

Getting a baseline weight on a kitchen scale or by holding him on scales, and then subtracting your weight would get a rough weight. A tub of Tylosin has 100 grams. A tsp of Tylosin is about 4-5 grams. 1 gram equals 1000 mg, so 5 grams equals 5000 mg. I am terrible at math, but you could probably figure out how to mix 50mg per pound, and divide it into doses 2-3 during the day.

This was a lot to wrap my head around. So if I’m giving him under 1/4 of a tablespoon that’s less than recommended even for 1lb…. Or is the 50mg for the whole treatment not a single daily dose?

I don’t really want to do differently than my vet recommended but I can touch base with them again if it seems like they’re totally off base. They’re not very experienced with chickens.

The 50mg is per pound for the whole day, for 3-5 days. So, if he weighs 8 pounds, that is 400 mg for the whole day. Giving it in 2-3 divided doses will keep the blood levels steady.

Honestly he was not looking great today. I am still trying for him. He got his meds some scrambled egg. I saline flushed his eye and cleaned it up and did a few minutes of warm compress. He was looking more lethargic and would not eat on his own. I gave him some nutridrench. I’m not optimistic but I’ll keep trying.

Just in case you think you need to up his med amount, I have always found dosage info from experienced members to be sound. I have a small bantam rooster and have given him both goat dewormer and aquazole safely according to the amounts advised from members, probably erroring on the side of caution for his small size, but with no negative effects

I did double check the dosage my vet gave me and it is correct for his weight. I’m more of a humanities person so it took me a second
