Rooster Swollen Foot Toes Don't Move He Won't Walk

Yes he is up off the ground with some shaving that he loves. His pen gets cleaned out everyday. About how long for it to heal?

This might take up to two weeks as he has to use the wounded foot daily which will delay the healing.

OK guys We checked on Fancy again a little bit ago. Sorry these pictures are graphic, but I think we found his issue. The spot on top of his foot was just a scale I thought it might be a scab but it was not. The bottom of his toe was fine just scales coming off then he saw the hole. We soaked him about 10 mins in epson salt and the rest of the scale came off.Poor baby had all that gunk in the hole. Flushed the hole out and packed it with ointment, gauze then wrap. Giving him another round of penicillin. Thank you to everyone for all of the help!!Now I need to know how often I need to change his dressing!!

Hopefully this will get him on the road to recovery.
I agree, I would check the foot daily since there was a hole there.
He also has a spot on the side of his leg that I see, I would watch that too.

If he's wire/pen fighting the other rooster, you may need to place some barriers or make it so the other rooster can't get close enough to antagonize.

I do understand that may be a challenge, but I have to watch mine close and place barriers. This does not always deter fence/wire kicking and prevent foot injuries, but it does help.

Fancy was no better today. Foot still swollen, not walking on it but spunky as ever. We found a vet that would see him. He said everything looked great. We did a wonderful job getting the bumble out. He said to keep it unwrapped. It has healed enough and it needs some air. He gave him 2 shots, one was an antibiotic and the other was for pain. He sent him home with 4 more shots, one a day. If he is not getting better with the shots they will have to put a couple of drains in.

I'm trying to keep this thread updated in case anyone else has the same issue they can see my outcome.

Sadly Fancy passed away today. He was at the vet having drains put in and stopped breathing. The swelling had started to go up his leg. The vet said he was septic. The infection just got too bad.

Oh I'm so sorry! You did your best! You can enter him in my online poultry show as a memorial if you like. Maybe you have some old pics of him, I would love to see him there! It starts with "step right up", if you go to the poultry show forum. I am again sorry, you really cared about him and did your best to save him, but he is for sure frolicking in the sun in a meadow full of meal worms and clover with our other chicken friends! *Big hugs* He is over the rainbow now!

Sadly Fancy passed away today. He was at the vet having drains put in and stopped breathing. The swelling had started to go up his leg. The vet said he was septic. The infection just got too bad.

I'm sorry to hear about Fancy
