Rooster "taking advantage" of hens.....normal?

If i were having that problem I would remove him and start over with a new rooster. Maybe adding a rooster in with older girls will help out a bit because the girls will be more in charge. I did that and seems to be working, though my roos are a Bantam cochin and silkie.

I understand that it's not raping but when they force themselves on an unwilling hen, I'm not sure what else to call it. I've taken to calling my young guy Therapist. Because when you separate the first three letters it becomes "The Rapist." He hasn't drawn blood and rarely pulls out a feather though so I'm letting him be for a while. He only rejoined the flock last week and is, after all, young.

Some are more talented than others. Some go thru a learning phase. I've had to give one a time out several times, of course the darn rooster stops eating when I do that! So I'm back to duct tape on the hen backs.

I raise pigeons, and my males have been known to rape the females. Especially my Tumblers, who are big and especially "motivated", if you know what I mean...

I had a couple of Bcm boys that thought it was ok to tag team the girls. One would night the neck from the front and the other would come in from the back. I finally put them in a pin with some JJ that are twice there size and I will say this it is really nice to see them hide in the corner. I let them out and if they act up they go back for some more therapy. It really seems to work.

Definitely NOT normal. My roosters periodically mate the hens, but they are gentlemen about it.

You will have whatever you tolerate! In my coop the hens come first, if the roosters can't play by the rules they go to freezer camp. Please, don't give him to someone else!

I have to agree. I mean I had one that ripped out feathers and bruised their combs. They squawked and shreiked when he topped them. Then I had one that was a gentleman and they didn't object like that. The gentleman one was even the biggest so it wasn't size. Some are just not real nice.

Little Red gets squirrelly with the ladies and has rubbed the feathers off but he is .... um a ... "hormonal" teenage boy so to speak. I believe he will grow out of it as he gets older. If he does not then as much as I don't want to do it, he will have his name changed to "stew".

My roo was a pig with the girls - he now lives very much alone. And is on borrowed time atm - he's got a couple months to be rehabilitated from attacking ME and if this last ditch effort doesn't work .. he's going to have to go.
