Rooster trying to kill us

The bruise on my leg from last week, I don't want that on my face. The second time he got me I had a gash that bled. Again. I don't want this on my face.

If you have no advice other than to tell me how I reacted is wrong and harp on everything I post, move along cause I'm not interested.

Just my personal opinion: the only "wrong" thing you did was to let him live this long.

The point when you started carrying a stick for protection is the point when I would have started planning to butcher him. If I dawdled long enough for him to injure anyone, I would have butchered him before it happened again.

I will probably give him to my neighbor and let them cull him. It's not my thing.

I think you should do this as soon as possible, and keep the rooster penned until then.

Thank you for helping all those helpless babies that people are too selfish to love or think that it won't be too much trouble to take care of. Teenage roosters can be a handful. Mine is going on 16 weeks old.... so far he is the perfect gentleman. He is standoffish so i let him be but every once in a while he will let me pet him. If at all possible never turn your back on your roo. Talk to him when he is calm, tell him he is doing a good job. As you know they certainly understand the things we say. Like someone else said he may be jealous of you feeding the hens. (reading this is all wonderful help if the situation occurs ) but it would be hard to eat him for dinner. Hopefully he will get past the hormone stage and be the good rooster you want.

Every 'mean' rooster I've ever had was a Barred Rock (and I've had chickens for going on 60 years). And in my experience they only get worse - never better - once they start going after people.

Get ANY other breed and you'll probably be fine.

Awwww. Bummer I’m so sorry. I don’t think it’s possible to change a rooster. I am a nurse and i get what you are saying. I am hardwired to help too. But roosters are who they are. He’s probably really good at his job protecting the ladies because of it. But big roosters can really hurt a person. He’s not going to change.
