Rooster {{ vent}}

NO it doen NOT alway work... i have tryed to "back down" several.. nothing worked, holding them upside down,, fighting back, ect ect etc.. even BOOTING one of them..
all of the meanest roos i have owned were ALL EE/ameracaunas..
most of my nasty banties i "broken" them of the habit of attacking me.. but NOT the EEs....

It works if you do it right. When my JG roo goes alpha on me, I chase him around the coop for a few minutes tapping him on the butt with a small stick (AKA the spanking stick). After such a training session he is good for at least a month. He is not very aggressive. The most he ever does is bump me with his chest, but even a bump with the chest will get him aquainted with the spanking stick.

WOW.. tapping him on the butt with a SMALL stick???? and it worked?? lucky you... maybe you should try that on an agressive rooster.... i guess you have never been ripped up with SPURS across your skull or your legs THROUGH the DENIM pants...
an agressive rooster you cant chase.. he stands his ground....
because all the AGRESSIVE roosters i have tryed to "train" you can use a RAKE and send him flying across the yard,, and he will jump up and attack you twice as hard.. and NOT give up untill DEATH..
small stick..

sorry i agree with poohbear.. a truly agressive rooster is NOT trainable....

LOL Jody I call that my pecking stick. If it is nearby I only have to tap it on the ground to get order. Mind you I have never had to touch a bird with it, it is like they just know.

Actually, I used to have the rooster from h@!!. He was a terror. He never attacked me because I always established my dominance. Poor DH, however, was ruthlessly attacked many times. DH dropped kicked him a number of times. Once they got in such a bad fight that the rooster was knocked unconscious and lost a spur when he hit the side of the house. The thing is that I established my dominance in the beginning and maintained it. The rooster just considered DH an occasional coop visitor that was not established on the pecking order. And I do know that some roosters are just hopeless and destined for the stew pot, but most can be trained.

You have to start early and be consistant. Once they are grown and have an attitude, an occasional fight with a rake might not do it. You have to handle them a lot and start when they are young.

i have a spanking net if he is bad i chase him around the pen hitting him in the rear. but if he stands his ground and fights back i turn it around and he gets a night in the rooster timeout box. where i lock him up then go play with and pet his favorite hen where he can see me doing it (glad he is in the cage then

)and he gets no water or food that night........ but i am not that cruel about it if he earns a timeout box ticket he gets the rest of the day and when they start to go up on the stick to sleep that's when he goes to timeout then he gets let out at 6:30 when we get up for school.

I need a roo that crows on cue! Our fair has a 'most crows' contest for registered birds and you can use any enticement at all to win.

By the time you spend enough time with your roo training him to crow on cue he either won't be trying to kill you or you'll have killed him in the process.
