Rooster was attacked by a raccoon

We flushed it really well and were able to get a lot of the blood off with the q-tips. One of his eyes looks punctured but the other is swollen and we are unable to tell. After we put triple antibiotic ointment. He wont eat or drink on his own since he cant see, but we used a syringe to give him water and electrolytes.

Be careful syringing water so he doesn’t choke. Tube feeding is something you may want to learn. You can give lareger amounts of liquids and very thin foods in a tube made of a piece of aquarium air tubing connected to a large 35 ml syringe. Air tubing is available at Walmart in the fish aisle or in a pet store.

You have been getting some real top notch advice here. I'm Impressed folks.
I could only add that if you are unable to source the meds recommended I have a couple of suggestions I recommend to everyone.
Cannabis oil if legal where you are. Not what folks smoke...drops in mtc oil.
You can apply directly to the wounds especially the eyes to pro.ote healing and fend off infection. Powerful stuff.

Chaga tea. Offer freely to drink. It will go a long way to promote healing, boost immunity, reduce inflammation, protect guts from any meds you administer, detoxify his body, fight infection from nasty coon saliva. It works internally to heal the unseen trauma that may exist after an attack.
Both will reduce stress and help recovery from shock.
These are my top go-to natural meds. They have helped tremendously with numerous issues.

Your little guy is going to be incredibly grateful for all of your love and care after suffering what he went through.

Those pictures give me a real hankering to feed another coon to the vultures!

How can I keep flies from getting on his wounds?
Where are you located in the world?

Can you bring him in or place him where flies can't get at his wounds?
I have seen a few people cover the outside of a cage/kennel with window screen to help keep out flies.

If you have flies buzzing/landing on his wounds, it would be a really good idea to flush the wounds again. Saline for around the eyes. I would use Chlorhexidine for the gash on the back of the head if you have that available.

You surely don't want flies to get in the wounds. The eggs can hatch in as little as 24hrs depending on weather - the maggots will damage tissue, eat into the flesh and cause infection.

I live in Texas.

One of his waddles is extremely swollen and has no color. On the tip you can see fatty tissue and looks extremely dark. What does that mean and is there anything we could do?

Last night my rooster was attacked by a raccoon and almost scalped. Both of his eyes are closed and he has a huge cut going from the back of his comb to right behind the eye. We did a water rinse to get as much dirt off of it. He gurgles when he breathes and drinks water, could that mean there is damage to his trachea? He has been taking these long deep breathes almost as someone who has a stuffy nose. We tried to clear his nostrils of any dirt. What could this be and how can we help? He has been able to stand up and clucked just a moment ago. View attachment 2038335
I don't know anything about medical needs. I've found these guy's are resilient. That said, I had racoon troubles in the past. I discovered Night Guards my racoon problem solved. I tried trapping it's awful and cruel. Best of luck to you!

I appreciate every ones help with The Colonel, but sadly his skin has just gotten worse. We have decided to put him down so he will no longer have to go through the pain. Thank you everyone who commented and replied to help him out.
