It dosent sound like a break to me, it sounds like a dislocation. It can't be repositioned at this point, but when the ligaments settle into their new home he could definitely cope and adjust. Horrible time for it to happen though in the winter, as he would definitely be less mobile until things situate. Just my opinion on the matter, I'm not a chicken physician but i do have late stage dislocation experience. :)

How would I know for sure? Would he still be in pain? I’ve seen pretty awesome posts where chickens cope with missing toes, feet etc. they’re pretty amazing creatures but how would his quality of life be effected? I wish I had more experience in this type of thing to know better.

You said you could feel a break, yes? Are you certain it was a break?

His good side feels rounded where I feel the hip, his bad side feels “sharp” if that’s the right word, like sticking out. I guess I’m not sure how it’s supposed to feel if the bone was just dislocated. My mind went straight to broken since it’s definitely not where it should be.

Can you feel any crepitus? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crepitus

The issue is a Vet would need to see him and understandably that is not an option. You could try a hokey pokey fix..Im not sure if it would be helpful though?...It would be time consuming and he will suffer with the pain if it does not work?..I really don't know or can tell you what to do..I only know what my decision would be.

There are pictures on Google of chicken wheelchairs if that is something you could do. Some people use them when their pet birds have been crippled.
If you decide to cull him, it would probably be best for him. It never hurts to try various treatments, but when they are suffering, culling is best.
